Our Neighbors

Hamtramck a 2.1 sq mi (5.5 kilometers) city is home to a highly diverse population.  Our neighbors (Hamtramck Residents) originate from all over the world and according to the 2010 United States Census,  there were 22, 423 people, 6,777 households, and 4,615 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 53.6% white (which includes people of Middle Eastern ancestry), 19.3% African American, 0.3% Native American, 21.5% Asian, and 4.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the population.  Ancestry groups identified include: African American or Black, Albanian, Arab, Asian Indian, Bangladeshi, French, German, Iraqi, Irish, Italian, Lebanese, Macedonian, Mexican, Pakistani, Polish, Russian, Scottish, Ukrainian, Yugoslavian, and many others!

Each of these ancestry groups bring a peculiar ethnic history, religion, and culture (i.e. customs, cusine, etc).  We value this diversity and welcome you whether you are a resident or a non-resident in learning more about our neighbors.
